Her Story

About Kalsey

I started in 2007 with just a blog as a hobby, seeing how far that could go and building up from there. I worked at a grocery store and moved up in the company, but when COVID hit and I had a baby in the NICU, I decided I just didn't want to work in the public and wanted to be home with my baby. I started working with a local company up in New Hampshire doing their website and SEO audits, and I realized I really liked doing the data and helping businesses grow. I continued learning and picking up freelance work, and now I'm in charge of 19 websites. First thing in the morning, I'm making nice little charts for other people to read and making sure that all our projections and KPIs that we set are getting hit and we're continuing to grow all these websites. This past year, I really got into learning SQL, RStudio, and Python to enhance what I can pull for data and be able to organize it quicker. I also still do freelance consulting work on the side, and I own a small business selling early educational materials like worksheets and sensory bins. My goal is to continue building and become a SEO director or SEO AI director for websites to help companies continue to build, strategize, and do what's best for them.

Ten minutes with Kalsey

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Best advice I can say is think outside the box. Don't get bogged down on what you're seeing on Reddit, or Facebook, or the best advice on this blog. Really think outside the box. Whatever company you're helping, understand the dynamic of that industry, because that's gonna be where you grow and make yourself seen as someone that, hey, I'm able to do this job for you.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I feel like people don't fully grasp the importance of SEO and getting websites to be seen on Google. I feel like a lot of people just, with AI, they just assume AI's gonna put them on the chart. So it's communicating and showing the worth in the role that I'm in, and saying, hey, let's help your return on investment, and let's grow.
