Her Story

About Kalyani

Kalyani Mullapudi is a data and analytics leader with more than fifteen years of experience spanning artificial intelligence, machine learning, and enterprise transformation across the insurance, healthcare, retail, and financial services sectors. She currently leads enterprise AI strategy and delivery, partnering with business and technology leaders to uncover opportunities for automation and decision intelligence across underwriting, claims, and portfolio management. Her career began in SAS development before evolving through predictive analytics, fraud detection, and machine learning, and has since expanded into generative and agentic AI. Rather than settling into a single specialty, she has deliberately moved across industries, viewing each new domain as a chance to sharpen both her technical capabilities and her strategic thinking.

Throughout her career, Kalyani has focused on turning complex business problems into practical, scalable AI solutions, building products from early strategy through full production deployment. Her work has centered on improving customer experience, streamlining operations through intelligent automation, and developing AI platforms that create measurable value for the organizations she serves. She holds a range of credentials that reflect her commitment to continuous growth, including an Azure Data Scientist certification, recognition as a Certified Purdue AI Expert Strategist, Product School AI certifications, and executive coaching in Chief AI Officer leadership through the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She is also a Certified Life Science Coach and Certified Yoga Instructor, credentials that speak to her broader commitment to wellness and holistic leadership. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she was selected for feature in Influential Women Magazine's 2026 edition representing Illinois.

Guided by the values of integrity, empathy, continuous learning, and service, Kalyani approaches leadership as an act of support for others rather than a pursuit of personal achievement. She credits her father's early lessons in humility, hard work, and compassion as a lasting influence on her professional character, alongside the mentors and colleagues who have shaped her thinking over the years. A vocal advocate for women in technology, she encourages rising professionals to lean into curiosity, resilience, and mentorship, and to trust the value of their own perspective. Looking forward, she remains committed to serving as a strategic partner in AI transformation, helping organizations adopt emerging technologies responsibly while keeping human impact at the center of innovation.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kalyani

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes down to three things: curiosity, being open to any kind of learning, and a genuine desire to help others solve meaningful problems. I have never been afraid to step outside my comfort zone or take on challenges that seemed bigger than my expertise at the time. Resilience has also played a huge role — I have faced setbacks, but I have learned that those moments often become the greatest teachers. Ultimately, I believe leadership is about serving others, whether that means mentoring a team or partnering with business leaders to create impact.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best guidance I've ever received came from my father, who has been the greatest influence in both my personal life and professional journey. From an early age, he instilled in me the values of integrity, hard work, humility, and treating others with kindness and respect. He taught me that true success isn't measured only by personal achievement, but by the positive impact you have on the lives of others. Whenever I face complex decisions or new challenges, I return to the principles he gave me: keep learning, stay humble, never compromise your integrity, and always lead with compassion. Alongside his influence, I'm also deeply grateful to the mentors, colleagues, and leaders I've worked with throughout my career, each of whom has taught me something valuable about leading through change, embracing innovation, and empowering teams.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Technology, especially AI, is changing incredibly fast, so I believe your greatest strengths will always be your curiosity, resilience, empathy, and willingness to keep learning. Technical skills can be developed over time, but a growth mindset and strong character will take you much further in the long run. I also encourage women to find mentors, build meaningful relationships, and never be afraid to ask a question. Above all, believe in the value of your own voice — your ideas, your experiences, and your perspective matter, and speaking up can create impact that extends well beyond your own career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see the rapid evolution of AI as both a challenge and an extraordinary opportunity. The pace of change requires continuous learning, adaptability, and strong governance to make sure AI delivers real, measurable business value. Having worked across insurance, healthcare, retail, and financial services, I've learned to navigate diverse business needs and translate emerging technologies into practical solutions. The greatest opportunity I see is bridging the gap between technology and human impact — building intelligent solutions that empower people and improve decision-making, rather than simply building advanced models for their own sake. I'm focused on continuing to serve as a strategic partner in AI transformation, helping organizations strengthen their analytics capabilities and adopt AI responsibly.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me every day are integrity, empathy, continuous learning, and service. I believe in being honest, keeping my commitments, and doing the right thing even when it's difficult — trust is one of the most valuable things a leader can build. Empathy is equally important to me; I believe the best solutions begin with listening and understanding different perspectives. As a lifelong learner, I see every conversation and experience as an opportunity to grow, especially in a field like AI that evolves so quickly. And finally, I believe in giving back — I'm passionate about sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and creating opportunities that help people and organizations reach their full potential.
