About Kamelia
Kamelia Sadeghi brings over 35 years of expertise to her role as a project manager for technical projects in the entertainment industry. She earned an AA in science from Ventura College before transferring to UCLA, where she completed a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science. Upon graduation, she joined McDonnell Douglas as a CAD CAM programmer and was soon moved to system administration, where she spent her first 20 to 25 years heavily involved in building large systems, programming, and Unix system administration. She later transitioned into project management, earning her Project Management Professional Certificate, and now oversees multiple concurrent technical projects by gathering requirements from stakeholders, properly scoping initiatives, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring timely delivery while collaborating across teams. Kamelia attributes her success to never giving up on her journey, continuously advancing her knowledge, maintaining a solid understanding of her work environment, and fostering collaboration with others. She advises young women entering technical fields to maintain confidence in their knowledge, love what they do, speak up in meetings, and serve as mentors to others in STEM.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kamelia
01What do you attribute your success to?
Not giving up on my journey as a Unix system administrator or project manager, always pushing my knowledge to learn more, having a solid knowledge of the environment I'm working in whether entertainment or any industry, collaborating with others, and ever advancing my knowledge through learning.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep your confidence and know that the knowledge you have is what's going to carry you. Always keep abreast of that so you have a voice in meetings. Love what you do and feel confident that you can manage it. Never feel that you're not good enough or let your voice be cut off in meetings; continue to speak your mind and knowledge, and know that anyone can do anything. As women in technical fields, be mentors to other women just starting, especially in STEM or sciences.
