Her Story
About Kamika
My career journey has been driven by my love for helping people. I spent a significant portion of my career in education, working in early childhood fields as a teacher, floater, lead, assistant director, and technical consultant. During the pandemic, I transitioned into customer service and discovered the business side of things, which opened up a whole new direction for me. Today, I serve as an operations manager for an electrical company, where I handle invoicing, scheduling, and all the administrative responsibilities. But what I'm most passionate about is my nonprofit, Serenity Haven, which I started in August and will celebrate one year this coming August. The organization focuses on building community through different events, volunteering, and mentoring. My vision is to create spaces where people can connect with others and build meaningful relationships, because I believe community is so important. The nonprofit has grown significantly since I started small, and I've seen the numbers increase at each event. What I love most about my work is helping people and seeing the impact of what I do. I thrive off of being a help to others and making them feel supported. My future goals include becoming a program director or executive assistant at a higher level, but most importantly, I want my nonprofit to thrive and become a generational thing that my kids can take on.

Ten minutes with Kamika
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think, honestly, it's just me being like, having that humble-type spirit, and just being like the safe place for people that makes them feel like, okay, she really is concerned about me, she really got that customer service type feel, and just love for people. I think that's what makes me keep going, because I want to always have that humble-type spirit as much as I can, and I know people thrive off of that. I'm being genuine. When I get clients that say, you know, you helped me out, I just love your spirit, I love that about you, it just makes me want to keep doing it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, to operate in silence in the beginning. You know, focus on what you're doing, and then once you get to that point, then you can like share it, because everybody may not be for your vision. You don't want any negative in making you doubt yourself. So, and then you just strive on that, and just believe in yourself throughout, because there's gonna be challenges along the way. I mean, I've experienced that myself. But I keep driving. And just that one, just that one compliment that says, hey, this is great events, or you know, something makes me like, okay, let me keep going.
