Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kamilah
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of personal determination and the support of the incredible community around me. While I have worked hard to create my own opportunities, I have also been fortunate to learn from mentors, leaders, and advocates who believed in me, challenged me to grow, and empowered me to trust in my abilities. Their guidance and encouragement have played a significant role in helping me build confidence, pursue ambitious goals, and continue evolving as a leader.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"When you commit to a position you are also committing your time. What are you going to do with that 8 hours a day, because at the end of the day that is up to you."
I heard that from a friend and colleague and it has always stuck with me. It really reframed my perspective into one of abundance and to recognize I get to do incredible things as long as I am willing and able.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that you may not have the perfect plan in front of you but as long as you're striving towards taking opportunities when they reveal themselves to you and not limiting your own potential. We often stand in our own way without realizing it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say the biggest challenge currently there are a lot of things happening globally and a lot of people can feel the stress or the tension around those things. However when there is hardship, you find people come together so much more. Tough times happen but people are tougher. There's something my Philippines team says to me often and that's Laban! L-A-B-A-N, don't give up the fight!
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Compassion, empathy, and a willingness to learn are at the core of who I am, both personally and professionally. I also deeply value diversity, inclusion, and equity, and I believe that embracing different perspectives strengthens relationships, organizations, and communities. These principles guide how I lead, how I collaborate with others, and how I strive to make a positive impact in both my work and personal life.
