Her Story

About Kandice

I've been in sales for about 20 years now, and I'm currently in business commercial sales with TDS, where we do fiber optics, cable, internet, and TV. I've been in this position for about 2 months, but I've been with TDS for a year and a half - I started with them in residential sales before moving to the business side. Before getting into this field, I worked for Costco for 13 years as a certified pharmacy technician. I made the switch about a year and a half ago because I wanted to find something closer to home. I was doing door-to-door sales for a while and it was just too hard being away and traveling a lot. Now I work from home remotely, which has been perfect. Throughout my career, I've been a top performer in sales, and I'm currently studying for my bachelor's degree in communications at Utah Tech University. I'm married to my dear husband of 11 years, and finding that balance between work and home has been really important to me.

Ten minutes with Kandice

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to finding out what I was good at and trying to find careers that met those talents and different things. It's really been about discovering my strengths and then seeking out opportunities that align with them. I've learned that when you can match your natural abilities with the right role, that's when you can really excel and become a top performer.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to continually keep learning and developing new skills. I was inspired to go back to school because I feel like it will open more doors for me. I've learned not to be afraid to put yourself out there and go for those opportunities - you never know what's gonna happen. Just go for it, don't be afraid, have the courage. I have on my Instagram, 'have courage and be kind' - it's a quote from Cinderella, but it's something I really believe in. Don't be afraid, and just be kind.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be open to learning, and just have fun. Enjoy the journey, and know that even if you start out, it may be hard at first, but just keep going, don't give up. You'll learn more when you put yourself out there instead of just being stagnant in something. Go for it - you learn more, the tougher it is, you'll learn from those experiences more than if it's just easy all the time.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges are probably just that technology is always changing, always evolving, so being open to learning new things along the way. Every day I'm learning something new, especially in this new role. So just being open to change and giving yourself grace that it does take a little bit of time to master it, but just keep going. You learn more when you put yourself out there instead of just being stagnant in something. Like, go for it - you learn more, the tougher it is, you'll learn from those experiences more than if it's just easy all the time.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Definitely member service and just taking care of the people that we're serving. That's been ingrained in me since my Costco days - just really taking care of the customer. Being able to work hard and be honest are really important to me. I believe in being accepting of different people's paths and different paths of life. I feel like everybody has something to offer, and I live by the golden rule: treat others how you want to be treated.
