Her Story
About Kanika
Kanika Pifer brings more than three decades of experience in software engineering, beginning her career as a programmer in 1995 and advancing through multiple promotions to manager and eventually Director of Software Development and Operations. She holds a Master's in Electrical Engineering, with her thesis applying the eigensystem realization algorithm to develop mathematical models for large space structures in collaboration with Phillips Laboratory. A lifelong learner, she has built on that foundation with Agile practices and continued study in cloud technologies, database modeling, and AI, and has championed responsible adoption of generative AI across her engineering teams.
In her most recent leadership position, Pifer directed a team of 75+ associates on large-scale initiatives, including a multi-year, $10 million banking core modernization project and an ETL-based platform consolidation that achieved an 85% reduction in operational costs. Because true platform stabilization requires bringing the people behind it together, she builds cultures of deep trust and operational excellence that make technical delivery possible. She has mentored five individuals into leadership roles, advocated for overlooked talent, and consistently raised team engagement, earning recognition from her division president for the top engagement score.
Pifer has served as a corporate champion for PayTech Women and received the Individual Diversity Champion Award, while also pursuing personal causes such as sponsoring a child in the Philippines and exploring opportunities to teach young women.
