Kanisa Williams
Kanisa Williams is an accomplished educator, leader, and innovator whose 23-year career has spanned every level of the K–12 landscape. From the classroom to the district office, she has built a reputation for transforming instructional practice, strengthening school systems, and championing the kind of meaningful support educators need to help students thrive. Her experience includes serving as a teacher, instructional coach, high school administrator, and district coordinator, as well as leading major school improvement initiatives and securing more than $3 million in grants to drive progress across her district.
In her current role as Academic Coach Senior Coordinator for DeKalb County School District, Kanisa supports 167 academic coaches through targeted professional learning, systems that measure impact, and structures that elevate teacher practice and student achievement. She is recognized for her deep expertise in school improvement processes, collaborative planning practices, instructional coaching frameworks, and effective feedback. Her leadership and insights have been shared locally, statewide, and nationally—including through speaking engagements, featured conference presentations, and her widely regarded contributions to the Southern Regional Education Board.
Beyond her district leadership, Kanisa is a passionate educator at heart. Her work in Adult Education, particularly as a GED instructor, reflects her belief in the transformative power of learning and the resilience of students of all ages. Whether coaching educators, empowering adult learners, or presenting to national audiences, Kanisa brings unwavering commitment, warmth, and a relentless pursuit of best practices—qualities that continue to shape stronger schools and brighter futures.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my deep love for the education field and the incredible journey it has given me, from leading and training more than 200 instructional coaches to teaching night school, where I help adult learners work toward earning their GED.
