About Kara

Kara Bermel serves as Project and Operations Manager at Widespread Construction, a custom luxury residential general contractor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Working across both project management and company operations, she oversees project financials, contracts and documentation, permitting, operational procedures, software and process implementation, and coordination among clients, subcontractors, superintendents, external design teams, and internal teams. Since joining Widespread Construction in February 2024, Bermel has continued a construction career defined by steady advancement, adaptability, and a desire to understand not only how projects are built, but how successful construction companies operate. Bermel entered the construction industry in 2019 as an Assistant Project Manager, bringing with her a diverse background in hospitality, purchasing, business operations, and permit consulting. She began working in the food and beverage industry as a teenager and progressed into leadership, ultimately serving as a General Manager. She has also worked as a Purchasing Manager for a national wholesale distributor and managed local gaming bars, developing valuable experience in leadership, procurement, financial accountability, customer service, and fast-paced operations. Her path into construction began through permit consulting, where she worked with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), engineers, and architects on business licensing, permitting, regulatory requirements, and development projects. Her career has since included roles with Trident Construction Corporation, Permit Solutions Plus, and Blue Heron, where she expanded her experience in project management, permitting and compliance, design coordination, and custom luxury residential construction. Today, her role at Widespread Construction brings those experiences together, with responsibilities spanning project execution, financial management, administrative systems, field coordination, and internal process development. She is particularly invested in improving the systems and procedures that connect the office and field, creating greater accountability, organization, and efficiency throughout the construction process. Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Bermel has built her career through persistence, resilience, and a willingness to continually learn. Rather than allowing her unconventional path into construction to define what she could accomplish, she has remained intentional about where she wants her career to go and is committed to developing the knowledge and confidence necessary to get there. Her core values are passion, compassion, and integrity, with integrity serving as a guiding principle in both her professional and personal life. For Bermel, leadership is not simply about advancement or title; it is about accountability, how people are treated, and the standards a person maintains. Bermel encourages young women entering construction and other traditionally male-dominated industries to establish a clear vision for themselves and take their ambitions seriously. She believes confidence is developed through experience, knowledge, and a willingness to step into uncomfortable situations. Her advice is to remain focused, maintain high standards, continue learning, and never allow the expectations of others to determine the limits of what is possible. As she continues advancing in her career, Bermel remains focused on expanding her knowledge, strengthening her leadership capabilities, and contributing to the growth of the organizations and projects she serves. What began as an unexpected transition into construction has become a career she has pursued with intention and one she has no intention of standing still in.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kara

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to persistence, resilience, and inner strength. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to moving forward, even when faced with challenges or setbacks. Those who have known me throughout my journey often recognize my ability to persevere, adapt, and remain determined through difficult circumstances. I believe that resilience has been instrumental in overcoming obstacles, learning from each experience, and continually growing both personally and professionally.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

During my time at Blue Heron, my Director of Project Delivery once told me that I would be an executive one day. I took those words seriously and I’ve carried them with me ever since.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish and how you want your career to unfold, then remain focused on that vision. Identify the skills, knowledge, and mindset you need to achieve your goals, and be intentional about developing them along the way. Stay committed to your path, adapt as opportunities arise, and never lose sight of what you are working toward.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field is navigating a traditionally male-dominated industry. While that environment can present obstacles, it also creates opportunities for women to bring diverse perspectives, demonstrate their expertise, and establish themselves as leaders. I believe continued progress comes from building strong professional relationships, developing confidence and expertise, and creating greater opportunities for women to succeed and advance within the industry.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is one of the most important values in both my professional and personal life. I strive to operate with honesty, accountability, and consistency in everything I do, regardless of the circumstances. While I try not to place unrealistic expectations on others, I hold myself to a high standard and believe in giving my best effort, honoring my commitments, and doing what I believe is right.
