About Kara

Kara Murphy serves as Executive Director of Amelia Droneheart, a nonprofit she took over about a year ago to revive a women's drone community originally started around 2014 or 2015. She holds a bachelor's degree in business and marketing from a college in Los Angeles and maintains her Part 107 certification and recurrent certificate for commercial drone operations. Murphy's career path includes early work in the music industry in promotional and marketing roles in Los Angeles after college, followed by a shift to photography beginning in 2009 and writing for publications such as Drone 360 magazine and DPReview. She has consulted with companies like DroneDeploy and now manages the Amelia Droneheart community of about 1200 women, oversees content creation, grant proposals, social media, website development, and plans for member profiles and scholarships while also running a separate Drone Community forum and writing a drone community handbook. Her efforts emphasize accurate information, community building, and encouraging more women and girls to pursue careers in unmanned aviation across various applications including photography, inspections, mapping, and agriculture.
