Her Interview
Ten minutes with Karen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the Lord always. Everything is a gift from God Himself. My husband is a very good supporter, and my children. Everything that I've been blessed with, my education, and my background, everything that I have learned is just a gift of God.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is never give up. If you're in it, and if it comes your way, it is for a reason. Just never give up and keep pushing, keep moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid. There is a piece of the pie for everybody. Prepare yourself and seize the moment. Get educated. Don't have a mentality of, I can't do this, it is too hard, or it's going to take too long. Seize each moment. Time is fleeting, make sure you utilize time efficiently and that will give you the greatest satisfaction; knowing that you did the best you could when you could do it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of my biggest challenges is getting people to do the right thing. Slow down and think logically. Many startup companies and small business owners have a view in mind but are not certain how-to attain it. Having them focus and start where they need to start, to set up their businesses in a proper way is often challenging.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Ethics. You have to be ethical, you have to be loyal. You have to be honest and trustworthy. In everything, regardless of how difficult it is, keep high standards of integrity and loyalty and honesty and trustworthiness.
