Her Story
About Karen
Karen Lopez serves as a case manager at Sweet James, a personal injury law firm, where she oversees a little over 100 cases and acts as a one-stop resource for clients needing assistance with medical appointments, property damage, and personal support. She entered the field approximately two years ago after beginning in accounts receivable and customer service at an attorney service firm that handled family law, civil matters, federal court, bankruptcy, and personal injury cases. Karen gradually shifted her focus to civil and personal injury law, drawn by the opportunity to connect directly with clients, and gained deeper experience at a firm formerly known as Daniel Kim before joining Sweet James. In addition to her role, she has been a notary since applying in 2017 and maintains membership in the California Notary Association. Karen is currently studying for her paralegal certification, with her notary test upcoming, and plans to open her own LLC in 2027. She emphasizes empathy in her work, treating clients as individuals rather than numbers, and advises young women entering the field to ask questions and leverage the supportive network available.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Karen
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Honestly, just ask the questions. The knowledge is there, the people here are always willing to help. My misconception was that everybody has a very shark mentality, but I have a great network and support system so asking doesn't feel like a burden.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is the fast-paced environment and the constant goals that need to be met. Focusing and organizing is always something we should be stellar at. I look forward to honing in on time managing so that I'm not rushing between clients and having a really good system.
