About Karen
Karen Mackay is a healthcare logistics professional whose career reflects resilience, lifelong learning, and a deep commitment to serving others. Originally from the Philippines, she worked tirelessly to build her career in the United States while raising two children and pursuing higher education. Balancing family responsibilities with full-time work, she earned an Associate of Applied Business in Business Management with a concentration in Healthcare Management from Eastern Gateway Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from Southern New Hampshire University, where she graduated Cum Laude. Her dedication to continuous improvement is further demonstrated through her Lean Six Sigma certifications and ongoing professional development.
Karen currently serves as a Materials Management Clerk at Methodist Hospital for Surgery, where she specializes in surgery hospital logistics, inventory management, supply chain coordination, cost management, and regulatory compliance. Before transitioning into healthcare logistics, she spent nearly a decade as a Registered Medical Assistant, supporting physicians and patients in both county and private healthcare settings while managing clinic operations and medical supplies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she also answered the call to public service as a Reserve Disaster Service Worker for Los Angeles County, helping administer COVID-19 testing during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare. These experiences strengthened her adaptability, teamwork, and commitment to delivering efficient, patient-centered support behind the scenes.
Driven by personal determination and inspired by her mother's belief that education is a lifelong asset that cannot be taken away, Karen credits her success to perseverance, family support, and a willingness to embrace change. She encourages young women to pursue their ambitions without fear, even if it means changing career paths along the way. Guided by the values of patience, consistency, and goal orientation, she continues to build her expertise in healthcare logistics with the long-term goal of becoming a materials manager while making meaningful contributions to the healthcare organizations and communities she serves.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my drive, my family's support, and my mother's guidance. She taught me that while people can take away your money, they can never take away your education—a lesson that continues to inspire my commitment to lifelong learning.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to pursue your dreams with confidence and never be afraid to explore new opportunities or transition into a different career path. Growth often comes from embracing change and believing in your potential.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me, both professionally and personally, are patience, consistency, and being goal-oriented. I believe these qualities are the foundation for achieving meaningful and lasting success.
