Her Story

About Karen

Karen L. Ross is an empowerment speaker, consultant, teacher, and self-published author based in the Greater Philadelphia area, with more than three decades of experience guiding others toward personal transformation. After stepping away from a career that began in electronic engineering, she made the bold decision to return to school in her forties as a non-traditional student, ultimately earning a degree in Human Services from Delaware Technical Community College in 2007. She has also deepened her expertise by becoming certified in Biblical Counseling and completing a "12 Steps with God" program. Her academic journey also carried her abroad, where she studied in Turkey and completed a hands-on internship in Africa, experiences that broadened her worldview and shaped her approach to helping others. Throughout her career, Ross has dedicated herself to community-centered work, leading workshops and support programs at women's shelters, senior centers, schools, and organizations serving pre-adjudicated and adjudicated youth. Her commitment to service extended internationally as well, through outreach efforts supporting women and children in Africa. As the founder of "Birth the Treasure Within," she has spent years consulting with businesses, churches, and community organizations, helping them build healthier, more proactive lifestyles while also facilitating goal-setting strategies and community-driven initiatives. Her professional path has included leadership roles such as Vice-President of Community Education and Human Services at Bridgeway, Inc., where she collaborated on life-skills programming and community development projects. At the heart of Ross's work is a philosophy centered on self-awareness, personal accountability, and spiritual growth. She is the author of Birth the Treasure Within: Believe in You, Believe in Your Greatness, Empower Yourself, and she is currently developing her next project, an inspirational journal designed to help readers deepen their own introspective practice. Guided by values of integrity, authentic leadership, and self-love, Ross encourages the people she works with — particularly young women — to trust their own path, release what no longer serves them, and fully embrace their inner greatness. Her enduring message is one of renewal and transformation, rooted in the belief that lasting change begins with the courage to look inward.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Karen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God, staying open to growth, and developing a deeper awareness and understanding of myself. I also credit my willingness to take responsibility for my own journey and my commitment to sharing what I've learned so that others can transform and thrive as well.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've ever received is to never give up, to be true to myself, to keep going, and to trust the process. I was also told to never stop writing, and that guidance has stayed with me throughout my career.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women to believe in themselves and to believe in their own greatness. I encourage them to trust the process, quiet the noise around them, and release anything — beliefs, conditioning, or relationships — that no longer serves their growth.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I see is that many people struggle to remain open, to trust the process, and to truly believe in themselves enough to move through it. At the same time, this presents an opportunity: supporting those who are willing to embrace change so they can experience greater joy, peace, and freedom.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and leadership are central to who I am — I believe that when you lead, trust and integrity must be present, and you must live your leadership authentically. Just as important to me is loving myself, understanding what that love truly means, and using it as the foundation for giving love to others.
