Her Interview

Ten minutes with Karen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith in God and the very good mentors I've had in my life. My faith has been everything for me. I can't do without Him, because without Him, I am nothing. God has guided me and provided for me, and He continues to do so. He's put some good people in my path, some very good mentors, whether in the public sector or the private sector. But I would count it as my faith. My faith has been that for me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is this: Never trade your authenticity for acceptance. In rooms where decisions are made and influence is exchanged, your greatest asset is not just your credentials—it’s your character. When you lead with integrity, excellence, and emotional intelligence, you don’t just occupy space—you shape it. Titles may grant authority, but authenticity builds lasting impact. Build a career that reflects your values, not just your ambitions. Influence is not measured only by promotions or platforms, but by the integrity you maintain and the people you empower along the way.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is that influence isn't about how many people you work with. It's about how many people are better because they work with you. Do what you can, because I believe in servitude. I'm a servant. I believe in service and in giving back to the community. And when something good happens to you, pay it forward. That's my thing.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is managing increasing complexity while still delivering clear, measurable results. As a Senior Program Manager, I’m navigating rapid technological advancements, evolving cybersecurity demands, and higher stakeholder expectations—all at the same time. The pace is fast, and the margin for error is small.

At the same time, this environment presents tremendous opportunity. Emerging technologies like AI and advanced data analytics allow us to drive smarter decisions and more efficient outcomes. There’s also an opportunity to shape strong, resilient teams in a hybrid and highly collaborative workforce. Leadership today requires adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to translate complex issues into strategic direction.

Ultimately, the challenge is balancing innovation with accountability—but that’s also what makes the work impactful and meaningful.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, excellence, and accountability are the values that guide both my work and my personal life. Integrity is non-negotiable for me. I believe trust is built in the moments when no one is watching, and I strive to lead in a way that reflects consistency and honesty.

Excellence is about giving my best in every space I occupy—not for recognition, but because it represents who I am. I take pride in being prepared, intentional, and dependable.

Accountability keeps me grounded. I own my results, learn from challenges, and grow through every experience. These values shape how I lead, how I serve, and how I show up for the people who rely on me.
