What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to building meaningful relationships with my students and adapting my teaching to meet their individual needs. Over more than a decade as a science educator in Round Rock Independent School District and three years teaching AP Biology in Kern County High School District in California, I have been most proud of engaging even the most challenging students and implementing differentiated instruction to support learners with diverse abilities. These experiences have shaped my approach to education, reinforcing the importance of connection, empathy, and tailored strategies in helping every student succeed.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received comes from my father, Scott Beachy, Ret. USNA, the wisest man I know. A lifelong learner and Navy officer for 30 years, he taught me the value of curiosity, broad knowledge, empathy, and dedication. I also draw inspiration from my husband, Dave Ihling, a software developer who applies precision and creativity in his work, and from my children, who remain my top priority and a constant reminder of why balance, purpose, and perseverance matter in both life and career.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering the industry to find what they love and pursue it with determination. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but staying persistent through the valleys ensures that the peaks—and the opportunities to grow and succeed—will follow. Embrace curiosity, seek mentorship, and let your passion guide your path. Never stop learning and building new skills.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life focusing on family, personal growth, and a connection to nature. I cherish spending time with my children, both pursuing STEM fields at Texas State University, and with family and friends, while staying active through running, hiking, sports, and time in my garage gym. I also care deeply about conservation, a passion that is closely tied to my education, career, and the paths my children are pursuing. My daughter, for example, is majoring in wildlife biology and exploring her artistic talents. These values guide how I live, work, and contribute to the world around me.
