Her Story
About Karen
Karen Yale is a lifelong educator, mentor, and faith-based leader whose career has been shaped by a deep commitment to developing both the minds and hearts of the people she serves. A proud alumna of Keswick Christian School in St. Petersburg, Florida, Karen attended the school from kindergarten through graduation and credits many of her teachers with inspiring her love of literature, communication, and lifelong learning. Their influence led her to pursue a career in education, and she eventually returned to her alma mater to teach alongside some of the very educators who had once mentored her. Beginning her career as a high school English teacher, Karen developed a passion for helping students discover their voices through writing, critical thinking, and meaningful relationships.
Over the course of nearly three decades in education, Karen has served in a variety of impactful roles, including secondary English teacher, guidance counselor, Bible teacher, curriculum writer, and leadership mentor. After earning her Master's degree in Professional School Counseling from Liberty University, she spent 17 years guiding students through their academic, personal, and spiritual development. For the past several years, she has served as Spiritual Formation Director at Keswick Christian School, overseeing spiritual development programs for students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. In addition to her work at the school, Karen teaches and mentors children and adults through her church ministry, equipping others to grow in faith, character, and leadership.
Karen's professional philosophy centers on the belief that true influence comes from the combination of competence and character. Whether speaking in elementary chapels, mentoring future leaders through the Ministry Leadership Institute, or teaching faculty members, she is passionate about helping others recognize their God-given purpose and potential. Looking ahead, Karen hopes to expand her impact by developing leadership training programs and virtual retreats for schools, churches, and women's organizations. Through every season of her career, she has remained dedicated to excellence, faith, community, and the transformative power of education.

Ten minutes with Karen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I definitely have a strong work ethic. I am committed to doing things with excellence. If my name is going to be on it, I want it to be the very best it can be, because one thing that we cover in our Ministry Leadership Institute (our high school leadership training program) is that good leaders are people who exhibit both competence and character. Yes, it is possible to have one without the other; however, if you are competent but not a person of integrity, then your influence is going to be short-lived; you're going to burn bridges. But, on the flip side, if you're just a really nice person, but you can't deliver, your influence is going to fall short because you don't have the ability that allows people to know you are capable. It’s important to have the marriage of competence and character. Doing excellent work and relating well to people gives you a “seat at the table”; it gives you a voice in decisions that are made.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to make the most of the experienced community of women around them. Tap into them — the good coaches, teachers, parents, youth workers, etc. These individuals know them, love them, want what's best for them, and genuinely want to help share their lifetime of wisdom and areas of expertise.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith in the Lord and my relationship with Him is foundational. I go to Him for guidance, and I am in His Word. Treating people with respect and kindness is also vitally important to me. The way we treat others is genuine social capital.
