Her Interview
Ten minutes with Karla
01What do you attribute your success to?
I credit my success to hard work, dedication, and self-motivation, along with leading by example and being a strong, empathetic listener. My client-first approach has been central to this—building trust and long-term relationships by always prioritizing what's best for my clients and their businesses, while continuing to invest in my own professional development and certifications.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to empower my team and lead with positivity, because that same positivity comes back to you. I've also learned that it's okay to pivot when necessary, as long as you keep pushing forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I'd tell them to work hard in silence and let their success speak for itself, while still being strong advocates for themselves—voicing their opinions, because they matter. I'd also encourage them to treat every client like family, always putting client and business interests first, and to pursue relevant certifications and ongoing training to build specialized expertise, particularly in group health and compliance.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Right now, I see growing demand for group health benefits and employer-sponsored solutions as a major opportunity in our field. At the same time, a real challenge is that many brokers and agents lack sufficient expertise in group health and compliance, which underscores the importance of training and building out dedicated departments to close that gap. Beyond that, driving customer satisfaction and equipping our team to deliver value-driven, client-tailored insurance solutions remains a constant focus.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and a client-first mindset guide everything I do, both professionally and personally. I place a high value on being dependable, managing my time well, and staying goal-driven, while remaining eager to keep learning and pursuing continuing education. Treating people with kindness, respect, and genuine care—and prioritizing long-term outcomes over short-term gains—matters deeply to me.
