Karla Smith

I am an accounting, human resources, and operations professional with over three decades of experience across multiple industries, currently serving as a Controller at Robert Half on a remote contract basis, a role I have held since January 2022, where I provide contract accounting and project implementation services to clients.

Prior to this role, I spent over ten years as a Consultant at KHS Consulting, where I specialized in accounting, payroll, HR, benefits, and operations management solutions for multiple small businesses across Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, and the Louisville area. My work included job creation, interviewing, new hire orientation and onboarding, coaching, training and development, team building, compliance, benefits management, month-end financial reporting, bank reconciliation, internal auditing, general ledger management, budgeting, planning and forecasting, notary services, and multi-state and US Customs title work for autos, boats, motorcycles, and RVs. I served a diverse range of clients including Omnicare, CVS, St. Elizabeth, construction companies, auto dealers, boat dealers, UC Health, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, restaurants, manufacturing companies, and other small businesses.

I also owned and operated Karla Cakes for nearly twenty-six years, from June 1994 to February 2020, where I created custom wedding cakes, birthday cakes, cupcakes, and baked goods, and also provided catering and event planning services.

I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration and Management from Thomas More University, where I graduated with a 3.89 GPA.

Across my career in accounting, consulting, and business ownership, my work has been driven by a commitment to helping organizations and individuals succeed through sound financial management, operational excellence, and a people-centered approach. Whether I am managing accounting operations, consulting on HR and benefits, or creating custom cakes for life's celebrations, I bring attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a genuine care for the people and businesses I serve.
