Karmella S. Todd is an accomplished administrative professional with more than 20 years of experience specializing in business operations, finance support, customer service, and process improvement across higher education and corporate environments. Based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she currently serves as an Administrative Assistant Senior at Western Michigan University, where she provides high-level administrative support to university leadership while enhancing operational efficiency and communication. Her expertise includes budget management, contract coordination, document management, website administration, project coordination, and developing systems that improve organizational effectiveness.
Throughout her career, Karmella has built a reputation for creating streamlined processes, solving complex administrative challenges, and fostering positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. At Western Michigan University, she has supported the Department of Mathematics and the Office of Business and Finance by managing financial processes, coordinating departmental operations, developing onboarding resources, creating newsletters, maintaining digital platforms, and supporting employee engagement initiatives. Prior to joining WMU, she spent more than 12 years with Siegfried Crandall PC, where she provided administrative and client service support, managed financial documentation, assisted with compliance processes, and helped maintain efficient business operations.
Dedicated to professional growth, leadership, and community involvement, Karmella earned her Associate of Arts degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and is pursuing a Master of Arts in History at Western Michigan University. Her dedication and contributions have been recognized through multiple honors, including both the Annual and Semi-Annual Make a Difference Awards from Western Michigan University, which celebrate employees who demonstrate exceptional service, creativity, and commitment to the campus community. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance. Throughout my career, I have learned that dedication, resilience, and the ability to keep moving forward are essential to achieving goals and overcoming challenges. Staying committed, adapting to change, and consistently putting in the effort have allowed me to grow professionally and accomplish meaningful results. I believe persistence, a strong work ethic, and the determination to find solutions are what ultimately drive success.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering my industry to prioritize their mental health, create a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives, and never settle for less than they deserve. It is important to recognize your value, set boundaries, continue learning, and pursue opportunities that align with your goals and values. Success is not only measured by professional achievements but also by maintaining well-being, confidence, and fulfillment along the way.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, integrity, hard work, and perseverance. I believe that being truthful, dependable, and consistent builds trust and creates strong relationships with others. I strive to approach every responsibility with dedication, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to doing what is right. Perseverance has helped me overcome challenges and continue growing, reminding me that determination and resilience are essential to achieving lasting success.
