About Kassandra

Kassandra Velardo is a Behavior Analyst with 8 years of experience in the field of behavioral health and behavior analysis. She earned her Master's in psychology and went on to complete the requirements to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, including sitting for the board exam. Velardo works with children who have autism and developmental disabilities, providing supervision, treatment planning, and caregiver training for families. In her role, she supervises therapists and analyzes data collected during sessions to monitor progress and determine if interventions need adjustment. She attributes her success to grit and persistence, noting the challenges of completing 2,000 clinical hours as a single mother raising two daughters, and credits her support system and mentors for helping her through the process. Velardo advises aspiring professionals, especially young women, to build a strong support system, remain persistent, and recognize that the sacrifices are worthwhile in this women-led field.

Ten minutes with Kassandra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say grit and persistence, especially as a single mom doing 2000 clinical hours while raising two daughters. Having a strong support system and mentors who advocated for me made all the difference. Without those people who took time to sit with me and explain things, it would have been a lot harder.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Being persistent. Gaining those hours was not easy, you really have to hustle for those hours. Having people that really advocate for you is key. People will see that you really want it and will be on your side.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Make sure that you have a good support system that will advocate for you. Once you dedicate yourself, don't give up because it's very easy to want to backtrack. It's worth the sacrifice and the hard work. This field is definitely women-led and impactful.
