Ten minutes with Kat

01What do you attribute your success to?

For me, I think it's the fact that I've done a little bit of everything in the industry. You know, I've worked for a couple of hospitals, I've worked for agencies. So, I have worked on the supplier side, and I've also now worked on the MSP side, so I understand a lot of different perspectives or aspects of the business, and that has helped me. When you understand more of what you're doing, what value you're bringing to the industry, and at the end game, how you are affecting patient care, I think it makes you also value and help you grow within what your purpose is in the industry and what your role is.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Probably just to know your worth. That's the biggest one, especially as a woman in this industry or any industry, but knowing your worth and understanding your worth compared to the market as well. It's very important to be able to relay that to others and make those companies understand your worth.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to understand the market. Know what market that you're entering into, what challenges everybody is facing. Do your due diligence as far as research, even chatting with other connections in the industry, and then just to find what works for you. What is going to make you stand out? What value are you bringing to the industry that maybe others are not bringing? And stick with that and grow that value.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's a lot of restructuring going on, a lot of reorganization in companies. I was laid off in June from my last company and there have been a ton of people impacted by the market. Things are plateauing a little bit but that's been a big challenge for many agencies and MSPs. The biggest challenge right now is facing the summer slump along with the overall market post-COVID and managing that and finding my next employment home where I can best provide value.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say growth. A company that is there to help their employees grow, open communication, open door especially with remote businesses these days. Honesty and transparency is a huge one for me. High levels of communication and transparency is probably the number one for me. I believe there are ways to still be as transparent as possible or to simply say I can't provide that information.
