Her Story

About Kat

I've been in media sales since 2014, combining my interests in marketing, public relations, media, and journalism. This mix of passions led me to selling airtime for local stations, which is where I am today. I'm a local account executive for a TV station in Los Angeles, where I handle both local and national accounts, helping them connect to new clients and new customers through campaigns on streaming platforms and broadcast TV. I've been at my current position for two and a half years and was at a previous station for five years, giving me almost eight years of experience in local television. One of my proudest accomplishments was landing my first big local client deal, which took a lot of work to build a unique strategy and nurture that relationship. I'm also very proud of getting the job I'm at now with Paramount TV, which kind of feels like I finally made it to the big leagues. What I love most about my job is being able to help businesses grow. It's really satisfying when clients say sales were through the roof or that I helped them reach a new audience they weren't expecting to reach. It's especially nice to help a local business grow and see them excited and happy, particularly in this economy.

Ten minutes with Kat

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think maybe staying curious and being adaptable. The media industry changes really, really fast. Streaming has come into play, digital, there's all different kinds of social platforms now. So just being open to learning and evolving has really kept me growing and successful. Every day there's a new product or a new platform to learn about every day.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say don't be afraid to speak up. Trust your instincts. Sometimes we forget that our perspective is also valuable, so they need to know that their perspective is valuable, so definitely speak up, just trust your instincts. Also, build really strong relationships. Keep learning, don't burn bridges. Just keep those relationships strong. You'll never know who you'll reconnect with down the line that can help you and take you to the next career path or the next job.
