About Kat
Kat Pierrez brings 23 years of experience in human resources, beginning with an internship at Atlantic Container Line after which she remained in the field following graduation from Rutgers University. She currently serves as Senior Manager leading the Fleet Learning and Development function at Princess Cruise Lines, a role she has held for nearly one year, where she designs enterprise-wide learning and development strategy, establishes governance for training requests, and oversees a team including shoreside and shipboard learning and development. Earlier in her career she worked in HR business partnering and talent management across industries including software as a service and at ADP in human capital management. At IPG Health she advanced from VP/Director to Senior Vice President of Talent Management and Employee Experience, where she created a new employee experience function and focused on developing the HR team as business partners. She holds the Strategic HR Business Partner credential from the Human Capital Institute and is originally from New Jersey and New York but now resides in South Florida.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's okay to make mistakes, especially when you're newer in your career. Fail fast because that's how you learn and grow. If you don't make mistakes or fail, you're really not learning and growing. Apply what you learn and continue to grow, using that as inspiration.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
HR has evolved from personnel to HR business partner and now requires knowing the business first and HR second. Must understand and speak the language of your client group, be adaptable, learn, have innate curiosity, and be resilient as things change rapidly.
