Her Story

About Katana

Katana Ewbank is a strategic communications and marketing leader based in Overland Park, Kansas, United States. She is known for her work as a “passionate rural champion,” brand advocate, and strategy-first communicator, with a career centered on agriculture, production systems, livestock, and rural issues. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications from Oklahoma State University, where she built a foundation in agricultural storytelling, media, and industry engagement through internships and hands-on communications work.

Over the course of her career, Katana has developed deep expertise in public relations, strategic communications, marketing strategy, reputation management, and crisis communications across the agriculture and animal health sectors. She has held progressive leadership roles at agencies including VML, where she advanced from strategy leadership roles to Managing Director of Strategy and Insights. In these positions, she led go-to-market strategy for major product launches, strengthened client reputation, and helped scale agency growth while expanding its influence in production agriculture and livestock markets.

More recently, she transitioned into a senior leadership role as Director of Marketing Communications at Noble Research Institute, where she oversees integrated communications efforts supporting regenerative agriculture initiatives. Throughout her career, Katana has built a reputation for combining analytical strategy with practical industry understanding, helping organizations communicate more effectively in a complex B2B-to-B2C agricultural landscape while earning respect as a trusted voice in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my mother, a single parent who always took the time to explain her decisions rather than responding with “because I said so.” She instilled in me the belief that there is nothing I cannot achieve, and her sacrifices shaped my mindset that I can find a way to succeed in anything I set my mind to.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is that as I progress, “aha moments” may become less frequent, and that’s a sign of growth—not stagnation. I’ve learned to lean on my team’s insights and to value being interested over being interesting, as curiosity builds stronger relationships and better collaboration.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be bold. Use your job description as a suggestion not a limitation. Build relationships, ask for mentors. Apply even if you don't meet every criteria - have the audacity of a middle-aged white man.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Next generation entering ownership roles will shift cultural practices toward sustainable and regenerative production. Opportunity to bring consumer-focused go-to-market techniques into agriculture and try new things at an organization open to innovation.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Finding the fun and joy in work and life, balancing tasks with enjoyable parts to improve engagement and outcomes. Honesty and kindness grounded in truth for better relationships, not just being nice.
