Her Story

About Kate

Kate Brouse specializes in business consulting and services inclusion, focusing on disabilities inclusion and specifically working with inclusion for people who are deaf and hard of hearing. She began her work in this field in 2015 and is currently with an organization that offers AI solutions to enhance customer service accessibility. Brouse attributes her drive and success to her core identity and the values instilled by her parents from a young age, noting that even in grade school she would befriend those seen as outsiders or who were being bullied. She advises young women entering the industry to find a caring mentor who will support them long-term and then to become mentors themselves to learn and grow further. Outside of her professional endeavors, Brouse volunteers her time with the local symphony and is passionate about inclusion for people who have been incarcerated, helping them find jobs and receive second chances.

Ten minutes with Kate

01What do you attribute your success to?

It's who I am. It's the way I came. When I was even, you know, in as young as grade school, and I was always the person who, when there was a kid who was being bullied, or somebody new in the class... I was always the person who was going to befriend the person who was seen as the outsider... I think a lot of it was the values that my parents taught me, and, you know, just a lot of wiring how I came.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

They should find a mentor who is going to care for them... find a mentor that's really gonna care for them, and stick around and help them, and continue to be there for, you know, the next decade or 20 years... once they find that mentor... Stop being the mentee, and become the mentor, because you will learn more being a mentor than being a mentee... Find a good mentor, and then become a good mentor.
