Kate Schenker, CTPRP, CDPSE, GRCA, GRCP, ITIL is an accomplished Information Governance Manager at GCI General Communication, Inc., where she has served since 2016. With nearly two decades of experience in information management, data governance, and enterprise systems, Kate has established herself as a trusted expert in developing and implementing comprehensive governance frameworks that ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
Prior to her current role, Kate spent over a decade with Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, where she advanced through a series of leadership positions, including Senior Content Analyst, Enterprise Content Supervisor, and Intranet Content Officer. What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to lead people by serving them. Leadership, to me, means supporting others, empowering them to succeed, and creating an environment where everyone feels valued and capable of contributing their best.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I would give to young women entering this industry is to be humble but know your worth. Stay grounded, always be willing to learn, but never underestimate the value of your skills, your perspective, and your voice.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Striking a balance between robust data governance, regulatory compliance, and seamless user productivity. Promoting data protection and the secure deployment of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
