Her Story

About Katelyn

I graduated college in 2021 with a degree to be an English teacher, but I graduated in the midst of COVID, and getting into schools was difficult because everything was remote. Before I even graduated, I accepted an offer with a staffing company and always said I'd go back into teaching once things settled down, but I ended up falling in love with the industry. I started in technical recruiting, working with super specialized candidates in IT, cybersecurity, network engineering, and project management on a contract-to-hire and direct hire basis. After some time in technical recruiting, I had to leave the workforce for 7 months to be a full-time caretaker for my dad when he got sick. Once he was well and out of the hospital and rehab, I put my resume back out there and came across Radley Staffing, which focuses on construction staffing. Since starting with Radley, I've had so much success and learned so much about construction overall, from general contractors to women in construction organizations. The people in construction are so much more open to conversation and building relationships on a personal level, which is really important to me as a recruiter. I like to really build my relationships with my candidates and continue to check in on them and make sure they know I'm supporting them and rooting for them throughout their career and journey. This has given me the ability to really hone in on my skills and create those lasting relationships and get to know people on a deeper and more personal level than I did in technical recruiting.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being able to build lasting relationships with my candidates. Some of the candidates that I have worked with for several years are now personal friends of mine. Being able to see that growth and the dedication that I've really put into not only my candidates, but also the work that I've done has been one of the biggest successes for me. I've been able to really hone in on those relationships and not only create those relationships, but create those lasting friendships as well. What I enjoy most is getting that ability to interact with candidates every day and learning the backstories of every single person. Everybody comes from a different type of background, so getting able to really hone in and have those deep conversations and get to know candidates on a personal and deep level, opposed to just being a transactional recruiter, is what I like and enjoy the most about my career.
