Her Story
About Katelyn
She is a dedicated and multi-talented engineering student and emerging sustainability leader with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Systems Engineering and currently pursuing a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. She is currently gaining hands-on industry experience as a Sustainable Design & Engineering Intern at Walt Disney Imagineering, where she contributes to innovative sustainable design and engineering projects. At Stanford, she served as a Civil and Environmental Engineering Peer Advisor, supporting students with academic planning and outreach, and as a Living Lab Fellow in partnership with Redwood Materials, where she designed and deployed Stanford's first campus-wide rechargeable battery recycling pilot. She also served as a Residential Assistant for a freshman dorm, fostering an inclusive and supportive residential community, and as a CTL Math and Physics Tutor, helping groups of students strengthen their understanding of calculus, linear algebra, classical mechanics, and electromagnetism. Her leadership extends to involvement with the Society of Women Engineers and Camp Kaleidoscope, an organization that provides a summer camp and community to children with a parental cancer experience. She is recognized as a passionate, collaborative, and impact-driven leader who is deeply committed to sustainability, community building, and creating meaningful change through engineering and education.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I contribute my success to my family and friends who have supported me throughout my whole life, my professors and mentors who guided me through my academic and professional career, and my co-workers who always stood by my side.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Do what makes you happy and brings you purpose. That could look different for everyone, but as long as you stay true to yourself, you can never go wrong.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Finding purpose in your work is very important. Doing something that brings you fulfillment will give you knowledge and skills that last a lifetime, as well as leave the greatest impact on yourself and the people around you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Finding new ways to reduce scope 3 emissions.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
