Currently serving as a Dining Services Manager at a senior living facility, she brings decades of experience in hospitality, including leadership roles in food service management, restaurant operations, and nonprofit organizations. As she approaches retirement, Katherine is transitioning into a retail food service role with Emory, allowing her to continue contributing her expertise while enjoying a better work-life balance and more time with her family.
One of the most meaningful chapters of Katherine’s career was her nearly 20 years of service with nonprofit organizations dedicated to assisting homeless individuals and families. Katherine firmly believed that individuals experiencing homelessness deserved the same level of hospitality and dignity found in any restaurant setting. Her dedication to this mission inspired her master’s degree studies in hospitality, culminating in a capstone project focused on bringing hospitality-centered services to homeless populations. She is also a certified Serve Safe instructor and proctor, sharing her knowledge of food safety and best practices with others in the industry.
Throughout her career, Katherine has been guided by persistence, determination, and a passion for lifelong learning. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and family, reading history, and supporting her loved ones in their personal and professional journeys. Whether mentoring future hospitality professionals, teaching food safety courses, or serving vulnerable populations, Katherine’s legacy is one of leadership, service, and an unwavering commitment to helping others thrive.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Katherine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I am persistent and determined to get things done. If someone tells me "no", I find another way. This drive has been in me since childhood to prove others wrong. Working in nonprofits, writing grants and seeking funding made me not take "no" for an answer and just keep pushing until I get it especially for a good cause.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Try to get all you can in school and learn all you can about the field before going in so you do not go in blind. Find something you like to do and make a career out of it. Become the best that you can at it because the competition is stiff. Even trade school or nursing degrees count as long as you learn all you can.
