About Katherine
Katherine Bassett is an accomplished education leader and Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Tutoring Corps, where she leads a statewide initiative focused on strengthening academic outcomes and expanding educational opportunities for K–8 scholars. With more than 40 years in the education profession, her career has included extensive classroom teaching, leadership, consulting, and nonprofit experience. She has dedicated her work to advancing student success, empowering educators, building strategic partnerships, and developing innovative approaches to improve education systems.
As CEO of the New Jersey Tutoring Corps, Katherine oversees high-impact tutoring programs designed to strengthen students’ skills and confidence in math and literacy, particularly among scholars in underserved communities. Under her leadership, the organization has expanded its partnerships with schools, community organizations, and higher education institutions while also helping develop an educator pipeline through tutor apprenticeship programs. Her leadership has contributed to programs serving thousands of students and has emphasized evidence-based tutoring, scholar-centered practices, educator development, and sustainable growth.
Beyond her executive role, Katherine is an adjunct professor at Mount Holyoke College and the founder and CEO of Tall Poppy LLC, an education consultancy focused on leadership development, research, assessment, and educator opportunities in policy and advocacy. She has also contributed to national initiatives involving teacher leadership, professional learning, civic education, and education research, and serves in leadership and advisory capacities within the education community. Katherine holds a master’s degree in education from Rowan University and has continued her professional development through programs in business, management, and organizational growth. Her career reflects a sustained commitment to connecting strong leadership with meaningful outcomes for educators and students.
