About Katherine
Katherine DoroshWalther serves as Director of Teaching, Training, and Performance for the Harmony program in New York. In this role, she leads six ensembles consisting of three orchestras and three choirs, oversees a summer camp at Juilliard that serves more than 500 children over three weeks, and manages approximately 40 teachers while supporting subsidized programs in Title I schools across the city. A native of Venezuela, she has played the violin for 32 years and trained through the rigorous 12-year conservatory program in Mobolibo as part of El Sistema, the renowned youth orchestra initiative often described as an army for orchestras. After relocating to New York eight years ago, she spent six years as program director and violin teacher at the United Children and Music Project in New Jersey before joining Harmony. She earned a bachelor's degree in arts and another in political science from the Central University of Venezuela. Katherine remains active as a performer, playing with the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra and serving as first chair of the second violins. Her work is deeply influenced by her mentor Arlette Davila, and she is committed to providing the same supportive opportunities to young musicians that she received growing up.
