Her Interview
Ten minutes with Katherine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of early passion, hands-on experience, and mentorship. Growing up, my grandmother and mother nurtured my love for fashion, encouraging me to explore sewing and design from a young age. As I experimented with every aspect of apparel, I discovered a particular passion for the technical side, especially pattern making. Mentors, like Lisa Pinkoski, taught me the rules of the craft while also showing me the value of trusting my instincts and taking creative risks—lessons that continue to guide my work today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to have confidence in your skillset, trust in your instinct and don't second guess yourself. This advice came from my mentor Lisa Pinkoski, who taught me that while there are many rules in pattern making, not all rules are always right. Sometimes you need to trust your gut and do something a little crazy to make it fit well.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering my industry to always shoot your shot, don't be afraid to hear no, because you could hear a thousand no's, and they're probably not meant for you anyways, but the one yes will be.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The high tariffs and war in Iran are making the cost of production extremely difficult. With very few factories in the US, it's becoming increasingly difficult to produce new, exciting and great quality product.
