Her Interview
Ten minutes with Katherine
01What do you attribute your success to?
Stubbornness, for sure. I'm pretty darn stubborn once I set my mind to something. Over the years, I've also worked hard to build strong habits, both organizational habits at work and a lot of structure in my home and personal life. And I never let myself get stagnant.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You don't have to figure it all out right now. Young people are so entrenched in the idea that you grow up, graduate from college, get a job, and that becomes your career. And that's great. For some people, that might be all it is. But other people get the chance to decide who they want to be multiple times over in their career. Don't ever let working in a male-dominated world be a barrier to anything you can do. And don't give up.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge for me is growing a small business. It's not easy, and some days it asks more of me than I expected. When you're the one everyone relies on, you have to keep showing up for yourself, and I've learned that I can. Healthcare also changes day to day and week to week, and I see that as the opportunity. Staying relevant and present in a field that never stands still is exactly what keeps me sharp, and it's what my clients count on me for.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value genuine connection. Family is very, very important to me. So is supporting others, always, even when I'm not at my best. And honesty and decency are big, big values for me.
