About Katheryn

Katheryn Wilkins owns and operates Beauty Through the Lens, her photography business based at 76 High Street in Newton, New Jersey. She has been a photographer for 13 years and launched her company in January 2022 after transitioning from manufacturing work. Her specialties include landscape, nature, wildlife, automotive, architecture, portraits, pet portraits, real estate photography, commercial photography, and branding photography. Wilkins holds an associate's degree in digital photography and two bachelor's degrees, one in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship and one in graphic design with a concentration in web design. She is currently enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University, where she is pursuing these degrees through the online program. She was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success. In addition to her professional work, Wilkins donates proceeds from mini sessions to charitable causes including epilepsy support, breast cancer awareness, and suicide prevention awareness. She emphasizes the importance of believing in oneself and advises aspiring photographers to approach each shoot as a hunt for the desired image rather than following a predetermined plan.

01What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work will always pay off. Determination and consistency has helped me face my fear, the future and goals head on to not only hunt for that perfect shot but also believe in myself. I was always told trust the process and I did.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Trust the Process. Ive used that quote ever since it was told to me and it has paid off.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If I were to give the best advice to a young, inspiring photographer, Male or female. I always simply tell them. When you go out and do your photography. don't go out thinking, this is what I'm gonna do, this is how I'm gonna do it. Just go out there. And be in that hunt for that one photograph. Go find... That one desired photograph, and go on the hunt until you find it. Once you find that photograph, Start looking for that new photograph.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is being able to find the right investor in an economy where being frugal is preferred.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For me, it's... The biggest value... I will give is... Believe in yourself. Believe that you can. ...always say, I can. ...When you say, I can, and I will. You go after that picture.
