Her Story
About Kathleen
I serve as a high school principal overseeing grades 9 through 12 at a school with about 900 people. Running a school is basically like running a small city - I'm like the mayor of a very small town because I oversee maintenance, custodial, grounds, education, and cafeteria operations. During summer, principals don't actually get a summer break - I spend that time painting walls, filling potholes, and doing anything to make the campus better for the kids. That's our time to do school improvements. I work really hard to recognize everybody else, whether that's my students, my staff, or my groundskeepers. I'm in the process of joining the Mojave County Library Advisory Council. As my son gets bigger and involved in athletics, my goal in life is to be number one team mom who cuts the oranges and bedazzles her shirts and cheers everybody on.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I work really hard to recognize everybody else - whether that's my students, my staff, my groundskeepers, just everybody. I don't always earn recognition for myself, so to actually be seen outside of my daily task as someone who is making an impact is really nice, because sometimes those who are always recognizing and rewarding others don't get that recognition and rewards themselves. Right now, I haven't tried to fill myself outside of family time too much, because when my son starts getting active in athletics, my goal in life is to be number one team mom who cuts the oranges and bedazzles her shirts and cheers everybody on. We do everything shared, and anything we do money-wise, we always do as a family.
