About Kathleen
Kathleen Hamilton is an author and Walmart stocker based in Appomattox, Virginia. She has been an author for nearly nine years, having self-published an 11-book series called Terra Lepus featuring animals in another universe. She is currently working on a paranormal romance novel and hopes to secure a traditional publishing agent. In addition to her writing, Hamilton has worked at Walmart in Lynchburg, Virginia for over four years, where she stocks groceries and household goods during the day shift. Prior to these roles, she spent eight years in secondary education after graduating high school and attending Longwood College, now Longwood University, for three years, as well as completing nursing school at Lynchburg General Hospital. Hamilton attributes her success to the support of her family and a few good friends at work, and she values honesty, kindness, self-sacrifice, being a good listener, and attentiveness to others in both her professional and personal life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kathleen
01What do you attribute your success to?
My family and a few good friends at work who believe in me have helped boost me to do the right thing and move forward. Without my family, I probably still would be a lost soul right now.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
As an author, write what's on your mind, keep it consistent and fluid with lots of details. Write first, then talk to an agent if you want to go traditional. Don't give up when people say no. Stand up for yourself at work like at Walmart, keep records if something is going on, and try to be understanding with coworkers.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being honest, being kind, a little self-sacrifice, being a good listener, and being attentive to other people around you because they may have needs you're not aware of.
