About Kathleen

Kathleen A. Nopper, MSN, FNP-C, ACHPN, is a Family Nurse Practitioner with 16 years of experience as a nurse practitioner and nearly four decades in nursing. She has devoted the majority of her advanced practice career to hospice and palliative care, developing extensive expertise in pain and symptom management, advance care planning, and supporting patients and families through complex healthcare decisions. In her previous role with Landmark Health, she worked within a palliative care pathway serving Medicare Advantage patients, providing compassionate, individualized support during some of the most challenging transitions in their lives. She currently applies her clinical expertise in collaboration with a sleep medicine physician, continuing her commitment to patient-centered care.

Nopper began her nursing journey in 1986 and entered the nursing profession in 1989. Her professional development was significantly shaped by her education and training in Austria, where she gained a distinctive perspective on end-of-life care and the importance of presence, attentive listening, and authentic human connection. She holds a BS in German and is multilingual, speaking German, Spanish, French, and some Russian. Her accomplishments include receiving an AFS student scholarship and being selected as a Fulbright Scholar. She is also a member of the Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses Association and has earned advanced certification in hospice and palliative care, reflecting her ongoing dedication to clinical excellence and professional growth.

Nopper attributes her success to her faith and love of the Lord, along with the support of her family and community. She believes her training in presence and end-of-life care in Austria has distinguished her as a clinician, strengthening her ability to be fully present with patients and families during times of uncertainty and vulnerability. Her practice is grounded in integrity, respect, and compassion, values that guide both her professional relationships and personal life. Through her clinical knowledge, advocacy, and deeply human approach to care, Nopper strives to help patients and families navigate difficult healthcare experiences with dignity, understanding, and confidence.

Ten minutes with Kathleen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith and love of the Lord, as well as the unwavering support of my family and community. These foundations have shaped me both personally and professionally, allowing me to become a more compassionate, grounded, and effective clinician. In addition, the presence-based training I received during my education in Austria has been instrumental in distinguishing my approach to clinical practice, strengthening my ability to connect authentically with patients and approach each interaction with greater awareness, empathy, and purpose.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to be authentically myself and bring my unique talents to everything I do. I believe that embracing who I am, recognizing my strengths, and using my abilities with confidence allows me to make a meaningful impact while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women entering my industry to keep a journal of their experiences, using it as a valuable tool for reflection, learning, and professional growth. It is equally important to maintain a healthy work-life balance and prioritize self-care, including adequate rest, nourishing nutrition, and activities that bring joy and fulfillment. Taking time to recharge, have fun, and enjoy activities such as dancing can help sustain energy, resilience, and passion throughout a rewarding career.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both professionally and personally, are faith, integrity, respect, and compassion. I strive to lead and live with strong principles, treating others with kindness and dignity while remaining true to my beliefs and commitments. These values guide my decisions, shape my relationships, and inspire me to serve others with authenticity and purpose.
