About Kathrina

Kathrina Peterson is a lawyer with extensive experience in non-profit and government roles focused on federal funding and victim support. She has been at Democracy Board for a year and a half, where her work centers on helping federally funded grantees and supporting organizations understand threats to their programming. Before joining Democracy Board, she spent 16 years in civil service, including time at the Office for Victims of Crime in the Department of Justice, where she provided federal funding to programs supporting survivors of crime. One of her notable achievements was working with states to expand services to all survivors of crimes through federal funding. Her journey was shaped by volunteering at a domestic violence shelter during college and working at Georgetown Law School in the Domestic Violence Clinic. She is an active member of the DC Bar and DC Bar Association, and an inactive member of the Massachusetts and Maryland Bars. She received the Office of Justice Programs Employee of the Year award for her work on a regulation expanding services to survivors of crime. She values integrity, open communication, and humor, and attributes her success to good mentors and leaders.
