Her Story

About Kathryn

I founded Youthful Lawyers about 2 years ago because I really wanted to join a youth organization that could introduce me to legal concepts and provide a good understanding of these concepts in a well-built organization. Honestly, for youth-led organizations in law, I couldn't find an organization that achieved exactly what I wanted, so my mindset was if I can't find an organization that has what I desire, I should found one. As founder and executive director, I manage a team of over 70 people across 27 chapters spanning 25 countries and 18 US states. I come up with plans to lead meetings, run social media accounts, and lead all staff projects and events. A really relevant part of my background was being a speech and debate competitor for about 5 years, where I went to states, nationals, and district tournaments, mainly specializing in Lincoln Douglas debate but also doing other types of speech. This experience helped me with my other roles, such as later being a debate tutor, and it helped me with public speaking roles that helped me land my TEDx speech, speaking at the United Nations, and more. My most notable professional achievement has been being invited to the United Nations on behalf of my organization to host an event there this April, where I talked about my organization and introduced people to it.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to focus on impact rather than titles, because it's really easy to get caught up in positions or recognition, but then what truly matters is when your work is making a meaningful difference. When you focus on solving real problems and helping people, the opportunities and recognition tend to follow naturally.
