Her Story
About Kathryn
Kathryn Bishop has been a realtor since 2002. She entered the field after working as an assistant director, line producer, and executive producer for TV commercials and small feature films, choosing real estate to stop traveling and remain home with her teenage son. Her prior experience buying, remodeling, and selling homes during breaks from film work also informed this career shift. In addition to her real estate practice, Bishop has been an artist since high school and has actively sold her work for the past five years, participating in juried competitions, solo exhibitions, and events such as the Beverly Hills Art Fair. She serves on the board of directors for the Southern California Women's Caucus for Art and the California Art League, where she holds the position of membership chairman. Bishop won Clio Awards for her earlier work in the film industry. She attributes her professional success to her mother, who raised two daughters to be workaholics and taught them to stand on their own feet and pursue goals ethically.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kathryn
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mother raised two daughters who are workaholics. We were taught to stand on our own two feet. And if you wanted something, figure out how to get it ethically, and go get it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
As soon as you get your license, join a company that has a very strong training program where you have a mentor for at least your first 3 sales. Then you have a good, firm footing. Develop a marketing system, a contact system. Get a mentor, split your commissions, learn the business.
