Her Story

About Kathryn

Kathryn DePalma is a creative strategist, owner, and founder of Creative Edge Studios in Jacksonville, Florida. She identifies primarily as a music educator and has been playing and teaching music since childhood, long before learning to drive. In 2016, she founded Bold City Music Company, her initial music education business, which she now operates under the Creative Edge Studios umbrella alongside recording sessions, performances, workshops, and consulting. DePalma teaches music as an exceptional student educator at a Title I public school, working with students who have disabilities. She also assists other creative entrepreneurs with business and legal structure, bookkeeping practices, and strategies for financial growth. DePalma attributes her drive to a deep passion for music education and accessibility, noting that she would continue her exact daily routine even with infinite resources, as it represents her life purpose rather than merely a career. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing and asserting the value of creative work, charging appropriately, and avoiding undervaluation, lessons she applies both personally and when guiding others.

Ten minutes with Kathryn

01What do you attribute your success to?

If I had infinite money and never had to work again, I would still be doing my exact daily routine. I'd still be teaching at a Title I public school for students with disabilities, helping other entrepreneurs make income out of their passions, and trying to solve accessibility in music education. Any success is purely from passion. It's not just about a career, it's my life purpose.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I try to teach that what we do has tremendous value even if the public sees it as play or recreation. It's up to us to feel our own inner value so it manifests outwardly. This means charging what we deserve, not working for experience. I struggled with this until I got married and now have pets I would do anything for, which meant conquering my inner demons around asserting value. I help others work on how much to charge and when to stay firm.
