Kathy Hite serves as a compensation analyst in the total rewards area at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she has worked in higher education since transitioning from the banking sector. With 18 years of experience in HR, her responsibilities include making final candidate offers, creating job descriptions, conducting equity analyses, and managing leave of absence and retirement plan administration. She began her career in banking's mortgage division, advanced to become a trust officer utilizing her financial background, and later moved to higher education for its more collaborative environment. Hite holds three degrees from the University of Louisville, a paralegal degree, a business finance degree, and a master's degree in HR, as well as a trust officer certification. She attributes her success to her internal drive, strong mentors, faith, and the example set by her grandparents of perseverance and staying true to oneself. 01What do you attribute your success to?

My internal drive and really good mentors along the way. My faith in religion is very prevalent. My grandparents showed me to keep going when knocked down and stay true to yourself.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Learn how to listen. Allow yourself to embrace change and adapt. You have to be adaptable and flexible. Know how to command a room.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never too old to learn a new trick. You've got to learn how to listen with your eyes and ears. Give the same respect you want to receive. Learn how to take criticism.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Work-life balance is very important. Sharing knowledge and learning new things. Having human contact and interaction. Being proud of my work and colleagues. A culture that allows individuals to speak up and grow.
