Q

What do you attribute your success to?

For years, in the beginning, I tried to get away from community service and social services. But since I was never able to change areas or fields, I kind of took ownership of it. I figured this is where I'm supposed to be, so I decided to focus on making a difference here. That ownership and acceptance of my purpose has been key to my success. My clients love me because they feel my genuineness, and I think that comes from truly embracing this calling and committing to helping people on the front end, before they get into crisis.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my brother, who encouraged me to pursue social services—a path that ultimately shaped my career and purpose.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to have a genuine concern for people. The pay isn't that good - it's okay - but you gotta love what you do. You can't be in this work just for a paycheck. You have to have that genuine care and passion for helping people, because that's what this work is really about.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in social services is the limited pay, which can make it difficult to attract and retain professionals in the field. However, there is a powerful opportunity to make a meaningful, preventive impact by supporting individuals before they reach a point of crisis.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are genuineness, a commitment to helping others, making a meaningful difference, and showing up with consistent, faithful service every day.
