Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kathy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to learning from every single person I have ever worked with. The hundreds of people that I have worked with, I have learned from them. That is what makes me more successful with the next person and the next person. It is that cumulative learning that I can share with everybody now so they get the benefit of all that experience.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I wish I had received career advice. When I got out of college, I didn't know how to look for a job. I didn't know anything. Nobody's ever given me any advice.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You absolutely have to have the education and information to do it because unfortunately my field is not regulated. Getting those credentials and getting that foundational education is key. And then just being willing to work with everyone and offer your services for everyone.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Self-employment is a huge challenge because typically you are working with unemployed people who by virtue of their own employment do not have the funding to pay for private services. The opportunity is the joy you get from somebody landing the job of their dreams and getting that phone call saying thank you so much.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My spirituality is one of my most important values. When we leave our spirituality at the door, we have just left our morals, our ethics, and all of those things at the door with them. It is not religion. You have to be grounded spiritually to see the dignity of every person. Everybody has that intrinsic value.
