About Kathy

Kathy Saunders is a seasoned healthcare executive serving as Senior Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management at Redefine Healthcare and President of Medical Billing Associates LLC in Matawan, New Jersey. With 33 years of experience in healthcare administration, medical billing, and revenue cycle management, she oversees a department of approximately 85 team members, focusing on operational efficiency, revenue optimization, and exceptional service. Her career began in small medical offices, where she developed her expertise through hands-on experience and additional coursework in medical coding and billing. Before joining Redefine Healthcare, Kathy built and led her own medical billing business for 16 years, ultimately selling it to her current employer in 2022 while retaining an equity ownership stake.

Throughout her career, Kathy has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, team culture, and professional development. One of her proudest accomplishments is transforming a woman-owned business into a successful, sustainable enterprise that attracted a purchaser. Inspired by her father’s entrepreneurial spirit and the dedication he demonstrated while working seven days a week, she developed a deep appreciation for hard work, perseverance, and building something meaningful. As a leader, she prioritizes creating a supportive workplace where employees, particularly women, can thrive professionally while balancing their family responsibilities. She is also passionate about mentoring others and helping team members recognize their potential. In 2026, Kathy was named an RCM25 Top Revenue Cycle Leader by Adonis, recognizing her contributions and leadership in healthcare revenue cycle management.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Kathy values family, personal well-being, and community involvement. She actively supports breast cancer awareness initiatives, participating in awareness walks each October in honor of her sister, a breast cancer survivor. Outside of work, she enjoys practicing Pilates and spending time at her home in Florida. Drawing on her own journey as an entrepreneur and executive, Kathy encourages young women entering the industry to remain persistent, work hard, and believe that their goals are achievable. Through her leadership, mentorship, and dedication to building a positive team culture, she continues to make a meaningful impact on the healthcare industry and the people she leads.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kathy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work. Without a doubt, the fear of not being able to provide for my children as a single mom when they were young drove my ambition. The support of my partner, Scott, who brought his Wall Street background to Medical Billing Associates, helped shape the company’s direction and enabled us to successfully sell it in 2022 to Redefine Management.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to not be afraid to grow, to delegate, and to trust your team along the way. Equally valuable was the guidance to give people a chance, recognize their potential, and let them prove themselves, people will rise to the occasion and in turn that is success for the team as a whole.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to never give up, never doubt your abilities, and always project calm confidence, even under pressure. With hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. I strive to inspire the women I work with by leading through example, showing them that if I can achieve my goals despite the obstacles I’ve faced, they can too.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is the influence and financial power of insurance companies. However, the industry continues to grow tremendously, creating an abundance of opportunities for growth, career advancement, and professional development for women.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value a healthy balance between my professional and personal life. I’m passionate about my work, but I also prioritize time at home and personal downtime. I strive to keep the two separate so I can give my best to both my career and my well-being. That said, I often blur the line, letting the company’s success push me to overwork.
