Her Story

About Kathyrne

I've been in the administrative field for 15 years, and I currently serve as the Senior Administrator Specialist in Site Admin for Dow Chemical's Texas City location, where I work directly for the site leader. My role is multifaceted - I support our leadership team and one of our units on site, working with operators and technical staff from a technology aspect, helping with applications, access, and support. I also help our employees across the site with payroll, time cards, and benefit questions, making sure everything gets processed and escalated in a timely manner. Community engagement is another important part of what I do - I work closely with our community partners and ensure that our employees on site know what's going on in the community around us and how they can help support through volunteerism, donations, or just being a part of what's going on. My journey to this role started when I worked as a temp for about a year and a half with a contracting company external to Dow. After that assignment ended, I responded to a LinkedIn ad for a job with another contracting company that would support directly inside the gates for Dow Chemical. I worked in that role with the Turnaround organization and an amazing leader in that group for almost two to two and a half years before interviewing and accepting a Dow Direct role with the company, which placed me here at Texas City.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think that's a great opportunity for women and men in the administrative fields. I would say that having a heart of servant leadership is going to be vital. Being willing to ask questions, to put in the work, and do what's needed for yourself personally and professionally, for those around you and your leaders, to make sure that you are successful and that those around you are successful - because it's not one or the other, it's both.
