About Katie

Katie Amodei is a nonprofit development, communications, and grant writing professional with 15 years of experience in the nonprofit industry. Her career path includes roles at Boeing, the American Cancer Society, and nonprofits aiding homeless families, driven by a desire to tell stories that make a difference rather than generate profit. Amodei holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Oregon. She created human trafficking awareness signs for Washington State rest areas and ferries, as well as signage at 73 seaports nationwide for labor trafficking awareness, earning the Human Trafficking on Transportation Award from the Federal Government Department of Transportation in 2023. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the University of Oregon Alumni Association, and she volunteers with the Blaine Food Bank.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katie

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from a strong work ethic that I learned growing up on a ranch in Northern California. Working hard every day on the land taught me the value of dedication and perseverance, which I carry into my nonprofit work helping survivors of human trafficking.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Lean in to your network. I lean on my University of Oregon Alumni Association and fellow professionals in the Public Relations Society of America for support and advice. I am always surprised how many people say yes when asked for help, and I always say yes to others seeking advice or mentorship.
