Her Story

About Katie

As a Clinical Systems Specialist, I get to use the technology that I've held so dear over the past few years, to make a measurable difference in site and trial workflow and efficiency. No single day ever looks the same, but I wake up excited to tackle the obstacles our team faces.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I try to live every day as intentionally as possible. I truly believe life gives us back the same amount of energy, love, and effort we're willing to put in. One opportunity after another led me to where I am - you know, you wake up one day and look back and wonder how you got here, but it truly was just a matter of one experience after another guiding me to where my skills could make a difference.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Do what you love and you'll never feel like you're working-- I used to get frustrated that I wasn't getting paid to be off hiking in the mountains, or laying on a beach somewhere, but it turns out neither of those things mean anything to me if I'm not contributing to something bigger than myself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You can accomplish anything you dream of with a little audacity and a great sense of humor.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Technology is advancing rapidly in clinical research. Which has been creating absolute chaos in our extremely rigid and complex industry. Sponsors and Sites are underestimating the amount of work and effort it takes to implement new systems and technologies. This phenomenon is largely creating new and unexpected issues for organizations when they've already spent decades mastering the workflows they currently have. I want to use my experiences and skills to bridge this gap between what is and what could be.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Staying passionately curious, living my life with empathy for my fellow humans, and practicing gratitude are values I hold dear.
