Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong work ethic, curiosity, and a willingness to take on challenges outside of my comfort zone. The best opportunities I received came from doing something I had no prior experience with, but instead of being intimidated, I committed to learning, researching, and finding solutions. I also believe in taking ownership - when something goes wrong, I stay with it until it's resolved. That combination of accountability, perseverance, and continuous learning has been the foundation of my growth.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received wasn't a single phrase, but a mindset my dad instilled in me growing up: "What one has done, another can do." He taught me to see every challenge and new opportunity as a chance to grow rather than a reason to back down. Throughout my career, that perspective has given me the confidence to embrace unfamiliar responsibilities, trusting that with hard work, I could figure them out and get the job done.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don’t let the fact that it’s a male-dominated industry discourage you. Your unique perspective is a strength, and it can help you solve problems in ways others might not. Embrace new challenges, don’t be afraid to try something you’ve never done before, and keep learning—some of the best opportunities come from stepping outside your comfort zone.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is keeping up with rapidly evolving technology while managing the complexity of large-scale projects that require precise coordination from planning through installation and billing. At the same time, these challenges create opportunities to continuously expand my skills by embracing new technologies, solving unfamiliar problems, and collaborating with others to deliver better results.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Strong work ethic, perseverance, and accountability. Coming from a farming family, hard work was always expected. I was taught never to quit when things get hard, to keep going, and if I made a mistake, to own up to it and work until it was fixed.
